Every week, buyers send us photos of competitor COB LED strips asking, “Can you beat this price?”

Most of the time, those strips are covered in bubbles. My answer is always blunt: We can make it cheaper, but we won’t make it bubbly.

If you’re tired of arguing with suppliers about defects, here’s a production manager’s view on COB LED strip bubble reasons and how to stop them.

1. What Those Bubbles Actually Mean on the Production Line

Let’s be honest. A bubble isn’t just a “tiny air pocket.” It’s a red flag showing that the COB LED manufacturing process broke down somewhere between mixing and curing.

In our workshop, we classify bubble defects into three types:
Pinholes: Classic sign of skipping vacuum degassing.
Surface Pits: Usually from dirty workshops or bad glue.
Edge Gaps: Dispensing pressure was unstable.

If you see these, you know the factory is cutting corners.

2. The Cheap Tricks That Ruin COB LED Strips

We’ve done the math. Here’s how cost-cutting leads to COB LED strip bubble defects:

Skipping Vacuum Degassing
This is the #1 killer. Standard procedure: Mix phosphor and silicone under vacuum for 6–8 minutes. Budget factories skip this to save time. Result? Trapped air = bubbles.

Ignoring Pot Life
Mixed glue doesn’t last forever. Some suppliers mix huge buckets and keep using it until it thickens. Thick glue flows poorly and locks in air.

Over-Curing
Cranking the oven temperature speeds up production but traps gas underneath the surface. This creates hidden voids that only show up after aging.

3. How Bubbles Affect Lifespan

You might ask, “Does it really matter if the light turns on?”

Yes. We track COB LED strip bubble effect on lifespan constantly. Here’s what happens:
Heat Buildup: Voids block heat dissipation, causing faster brightness decay.
IP Failure: A single bubble near the edge destroys waterproof performance (IP65/IP67).

Ask your supplier these three questions:
1. “Do you use vacuum mixing machines? Show me the photos.”
2. “What is your glue pot life limit?”
3. “Give me your written AQL standard for bubbles.”

If they hesitate, they haven’t solved the bubble problem yet.
